mick is drinking whiskey? S01E06..

At the end of episode 6 of season 1 mick is drinking whiskey with his buddy Joshua. Why? Isn't he supposed to drink and eat only blood?

Many supernatural shows occasionally have the hero drinking an alcoholic beverage, and this has happened in other vampire shows. In fact, in another slightly different type of supernatural lead, I remember an episode of the old show, "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir", where the ghost enjoyed a glass of wine with Mrs. Muir. He should not have even been able to hold the glass!

If Philip Marlow didn't have a glass of alcohol or smoked something he wouldn't be cool. Then again Philip Marlow wasn't a vampire.

Coraline also orders her 'favourite wine'. i'm thinking that they can ingest liquids...especially if they are alcoholic. Maybe the strong flavours come throught somewhat. On the other hand, maybe it's just a plot device so the vamps can share a beverage with their human counterparts.

You mean if they are alcoholic vampires, or if they were alcoholics when they were still human? How would that be relevant?
There are several occurrences of vampires at least holding glasses of something else than blood in this series, even drinking from it. Apparently in this vampire-verse, vampires can't eat, but they can drink anything they like. However, only blood can sustain them. I'm not sure alcohol has any effect on them; can they even taste it? Does it inebriate them? The series doesn't answer.

ha, I actually meant alcoholic beverages. It just seems that they can't drink non-alcoholic beverages like juice or coffee (those are the two that I remember Mick lamenting over). And if Coraline had a favourite wine that would suggest that they can taste something...

reply

Got it! funny misunderstanding... ^^ Good point about coffee and juice, you're right, it seems only alcoholic beverages can be ingested. As for Coraline's favorite wine... could be snobbery, not necessarily fine taste. I don't mean that they can't taste anything, just that their vampire palate may not be the same as their human palate; after all, have you ever tried drinking fresh blood? I haven't but I'm pretty sure I'd gag (the smell of it alone makes me sick). And yet vampires find it delicious.

It must have some effect on them or they wouldn't bother. Mick and Josef drank together alone with no humans a couple of times. Sometimes Josef would add a couple drops of blood into the mixture.

I was told they had the capability to drink alcohol as they are technically walking dead and it helps with the slows down the detoriation of there body. I am not sure as I never was into vampires other than moonlight.

That was Coralines favorite when she was a vamp and had that wine when she was playing the photographer for Buzz Wire as she was trying to make Mick believe he was with coralin as she was eating as well. He never drank water or coffee.

It depends on the vampire lore. In some stories, vampires can drink beverages other than blood. In some stories, they can only drink blood and everything else makes them sick. In some stories, vampires can only drink "live" blood, as in not from a dead body (or a body that was dead before the vamp came along). In others vampires can drink blood from blood banks and sources other than a human body. In some stories, vampires can drink animal blood, and in some they can't (or don't).

On Being Human, the vampire Mitch drank whiskey and wine and coffee and tea. But the ghost drank tea too, which never made sense to me.

No, sorry, the ghost never actually Drinks the tea even if she does make alot of it. She just walks around with a cup in her hand as a force of habit and as something to hold on to that seems normal to her. Of the things that she is still able to do with the few powers she can control.

Over and out.

They kinda explained it in the pilot and episode 3:
"Moonlight"-vampires are able to eat and drink like humans but they aren't able to taste the food (I don't know about alcohol).

reply

Moonlight vampires add a few drops of blood to the alcohol
