Say that if they had to go this route, Rhaegal was killed in the attack on KL and Drogon is the one who loses his shit due to now being the last dragon and burns the city. Would that have been more believable than Dany just doing a 180? I don't know. It's only been a couple times when they tried to say that dragons are intelligent and not just exotic rides.

The more I think about it the more I think about the prophecy where the chosen one would kill his beloved to end the endless night and how I knew Jon could never do such a thing to Dany under any circumstances. But now I see they've created the one reason where he might.
Is Dany really his beloved?
Dany and Jon's relationship was as hasty and forced as anything on this show. We are supposed to believe that they are madly in love due to being together for 2 episodes? Based on what Jon's said and Dany's comments to Sansa.
Jon's relationship with Ygritte had about 10000x the meaning and they had great chemistry. I just don't see any at all between Jon and Dany to be honest. We had more seasons of Dany and Daario being together than we had episodes of Dany and Jon.
That's probably because Jon and Ygritte actually fell in love on set and got married irl.

Regardless..I still could never see Jon doing that to anyone that he cared about or didn't care about without great reasons so the prophecy seemed null and void to be about him.
But not anymore.
They've given him the only reason that would persuade him.
They really needed to build up Jon and Dany's relationship, make it an earthshaking passion for Dany, something she'd never experienced with her previous husband, fiancée, lover, or suitors. If they couldn't get Clarke to just express such feelings for the camera, they could have had Danerys tell Meissandre exactly that and had Tyrion and Varys worry that her passion was endangering everything they'd worked for, to make it absolutely clear that Danerys regarded the relationship with Jon as life-changing.
But they didn't take the time, and it seems like Dany and Jon were two beautiful people drawn to each other because they're beautiful. We're supposed to believe the breakup with Jon helped drive Danerys over the edge, but really, he didn't seem to mean much more to her than Dario had.
