Didn't Tyrion kill Davos' son during the Blackwater?

Has this ever been brought up? Davos holds no animosity towards Tyrion I guess? What a guy!

reply

They talked about it in S7E3, when Jon and Davos arrive at Dragonstone and are greeted by Tyrion. Tyrion says, "Ah, the onion knight, we fought on opposite sides on the battle of Blackwater bay" and Davos replies, "Unluckily for me"

reply

Davos seemingly doesn’t care ie the writers can’t be bothered.

If Davos kills the Red Woman for sacrificing Stannis’ daughter, but doesn’t avenge his own son’s death by burning ... that will be hilarious.

Actually, there's a follow up to this. In E5 of S7, when Davos smuggles Tyrion into King's Landing, he says at the beach, "Last time we were here, you killed my son with wildfire" with a slight regret in his voice. That's the most we see of his emotions on the matter. And like you say, he does seem to feel more strongly about Shereen's death lol. I'd chalk it to the writers more than the actor or the character.

If we're being charitable, it could be because Shireen's death was murder and because she was an innocent child, whereas Davos' son's death was as a casualty in an honest battle that he went into as a grown man knowing what could happen.

But really it's probably more that the show-writers just don't really care and want to shrug it off.

reply

No, I think it's just a matter of two men being on opposite sides of a battle, each fighting honorably for king and country. You're going to attack someone and then be angry because they didn't just lie down and die for you? They actually fought back? The nerve!

If his son had been nine years old and Tyrion tied him to a post and set him on fire, I'm sure Davos would want him dead too. Very different situation.

reply

Davos, his son and the army they brought with them were armed combatants invading Tyrion's city. They would have killed him in a second if they could.

Shireen was an innocent and helpless child.

reply

He was much closer to Shireen than his son.

reply

Murder of a child and a death in a miltary engagement are too very different things. Unreasonable to expect the person you are trying to kill to not try and kill you. But killing a child in cold blood, that is just about the worst crime any of us can think of.

reply

Jesuschristalmighty... EVERYONE in that show has been at war with each other and killed family members at one point or another!! I still marvel how Tormund so quickly went back to Jon after Jon’s reversal/betrayal, the wildlings attack on the wall, and Ygritte’s death, etc.

reply

Why would Davos even be upset? Yeah it's slightly awkward, but they were on opposite sides of a war. Plus Tyrion was the one defending his(kind of) city. It would be completely out of character for him to hold a grudge towards Tyrion.

reply

Exactly. If you're trying to kill someone, of course they're going to fight back! Resenting them for that is idiotic. It's not like Tyrion was gunning for Davos' son in particular. Stannis was far more responsible than anyone else for the boy's death.
