No consequences for blowing up the Sept and killing the sparrows -

So, why didn't Cersei and company just kill the sparrows in the first place? They were afraid of what the common people would think, but now Cersei has about the same number of allies (arguably even less), but is all the more stronger for taking out the sparrows. It seems like public opinion really doesn't matter in the end. The common folk even treated Cersei's enemies (the sandsnakes) as their own.

reply

Killing just the sparrows might bring consequences. Blowing them up with most of the aristocracy brings fear.

reply

Nah it's just the writers cutting corners again.

There is no way she took them all down in one explosion, that's BS. She took the High Sparrow but there were a lot of them, and they were organized.

But now that she's basically Joffrey/Ramsay with tits, everything is going to bizarrely go her way until she gets her "surprise" ending. That's elementary school soap writing.

reply

I can't believe that people would go along with it. She likely affected nearly all the aristocracy in the seven kingdoms by blowing up the Sept. I highly doubt that all of the Sparrows were in the Sept and it seems far fetched that the nobles in Kings Landing didn't flee the capital and join up with Dany.

reply

I seem to remember her finding out about the dragon fire reserves late in the game. Once she did, she used it. Also, prior to that, she was hoping to rely on trial by combat, but her son over ruled that

reply

Her story is that the explosion was a tragic accident, and apparently everyone knows she did it, but everyone is accepting that story.

reply

See this is my problem with the show and this season in particular. This season is supposed to have impact and so far it has been more of the same. The Lannisters do whatever they want and get by with it. That's pretty much how things have gone for the entire story.

reply

Although I’m not very fond of Season 7 so far, too…

»apparently everyone knows she did it, but everyone is accepting that story«

There are examples in history (I’m talking of real-world history, not Westeros) that people behaved just like this.

reply

Oh I'm sure there are examples of this in history and hell even present day. But yeah...so far, other than bringing all these characters together...and that scene in the first episode with "Walder Frey"...this season is still lacking some pay off.

reply

Truth.
It's happening every day in my country!

reply

They don't want to get their skull crushed in a back alley for talking smack abut the queen.

Also, Roose Bolton was poisoned by his enemies.

reply

OP makes a good point. People are very defensive about their religion and blowing up its leader and most of the monks with no consequences for Cersei makes no sense especially considering that popular Margaery was imprisoned by them, but the people accepted it, anyway. Royalty never had complete control of a country since there is public opinion, influence by the nobility and religious leadership. People should be rioting in the streets to overthrow Cersei.
