'R' rating

The documentary This Film is not yet Rated addresses this problem, but I really see no reason this film was given an R rating. As I recall, there were brief glimpes of nudity on the tv sets, but never in the actual movie (credit to Palka for not editing that for a better rating). I really liked the movie, as I do so many independents, but these movies are given these ratings that limit the audience. As the docu above says, in America, violent films are okay, but anything sexual is not. And major network movies can show far more sex than indies and still get favorable ratings. Nuts!

Ratings aren't all about nudity...how many times did they say the F word and other harsh swears? The whole movie is about sex, regardless...

"That is terrible advice, Ant1238."

You can only use the F word a few times in a movie before it becomes rated R. And you can't get a PG-13 rating if you use the F bomb that refers to sex.

In addition to the language and subject matter, there is full frontal female nudity. It's an image of a child, but I think the MPAA probably views movies that contain images of naked female children in a more severe light than movies that have similar images of naked male children(I say that because you see naked little boys far more often and it's treated as cute or humorous). This movie probably would have gotten an R rating anyway due to the F bombs and subject, but if it was borderline an image like that could push it over the edge into R territory.
