It's little wonder he didn't want her to leave the country

She was 17 going on 13.

Did they write her that immature to get a more sympathetic audience or something?

Because you use foul, common as muck obscene language on boards that prohibit it - such as "slut" and imply that if a woman drinks alcohol at a club, this somehow brings RAPE on herself. If a man gets drunk, and passes out and is raped by a gang of men, did HE ask for it as well? Or do those rules not apply to a man?

I agree that this character was unlikeable but I would never in a million years say nor imply that she "asked to be raped" because frankly I'm not a sociopath devoid of empathy. Whether it be an "innocent 14 year old" or a "drunken clubbing slut" as you oh-so-articulately coined it, rape is rape, and it is NOBODY'S fault but the rapist when it occurs.

That's why I report your posts, I mean you kiss your mother with that potty mouth? I sincerely hope that if you have a daughter, and this horrible crime happens to her God forbid - that you show a little more empathy and don't start questioning what she was wearing or how drunk she was at the time. You honestly think if you ever have a daughter, she'll NEVER, EVER get drunk, EVER?

Anyway, I'm not interested in debating you about this, please clean up your foul language on these boards, it's not becoming.

Truly Happy Mondayed.

Having a conversation in someone else' thread about the past really make it difficult to understand the thread at all.

I never understand what is a 'troll' thread until now.

American teens do come across that childish and annoying though.

reply

Yes, in a country of over 300 million people, all of the teenagers in the entire country from all races, cultures, and walks of life, which you have surely come in contact with the overwhelming majority of, come off that childish and annoying, yes.

reply

According to your 2000 cencus, there were between 25-28m (not 300m) teens in America.

So despite your sarcasm, out of that number, the teens depicted in most US TV shows and films, as well as newsreels, "do come across that childish and annoying".....period.

"I watched it and got something below expectation, so I'm venting on a public forum!"

reply

It's not sarcasm. Stop generalizing just because it makes it easy for you. There is no American culture. American teens don't act one way. Movies and TV shows are not representative of reality.

I was very close to insulting you out of frustration, but I'm trying to be better than that. Go and get to know people and experience what they're really like. Understand them. Then you will realize that people are far more diverse than you now give them credit for. Even teenagers.

reply

Of course, I have been around.

All of society generalises? The media, people in the street, etc. It's a human 'first impression' thing.

I don't apologise for merely stating that US teens (and any nation's teens come to that, but Hollywood pervades) come across (it's not cast in stone as I don't know them, as I don't know any film stars, politicians or historical characters whom I and everyone else forms opinions of!!!), but appear to come across a certain way, in my personal view.

When did Darth Tigris claim there were 300 million teens in America?

reply

I was wondering the same thing. Darth Tigris simply said "in a country of 300 million"- not 300 million teenagers. This is why so many arguments start on here: someone not actually reading the post through before responding.

reply

I can't help but respond to some of them even if it is futile. I just want to see if there's any response or retraction of some of the stupid statements.

I've had several arguments on IMDb simply because of dolts who either don't read beyond the thread title or have played some crazy game of connect the dots in their own tiny brains.

I don't mind people being wrong, but too often when people here are wrong here they'll continue to make stupid statements, completely change the subject of an argument or simply never reply (presumably dawdled off to be wrong about something else). If you're wrong, grow a pair and admit it.

reply

I was actually surprised that a 17 year old American was still a virgin. I was under the illusion that virginity to Americans is equivalent to having an std which is why they lose it as early as possible.
