Light skinned thin gorgeous teacher

wouldn't that give precious even more of a complex. They couldn't get a slim gorgeous dark skinned or brown skin woman at least??

reply

I think the point is that Precious is already dealing with a serious complex already. To bring in "thin and lighter" would be like taking a few steps back for no reason. They could have casted a darker sinned actress, but they wanted who they chose.

Actually, the movie follows the source material(the book "Push") in that particular issue.

No, it doesn't. The teacher in the book was dark-skinned, more like Precious. She had cornrows and was more awkward.

The director cast one of his friends. All of the actors are MUCH better looking than the characters as described in the book.

The reality of Hollywood is that actors have to be good-looking to get parts, and a director wants to work with experienced actors.

A very unfortunate reality is that for African-American women, "light-skinned and thin" are equal to "gorgeous."

It might have been a more interesting film if the director had cast people that looked like the characters in the book!

reply

A lot of the characters resembled their descriptions in the book and other than the cornrows, Ms. Rain fit all the characteristics with the possible exception of being a little less aggressive in the book.

reply

How the teacher looked wouldn't have made any difference to the charater whatsoever, the story was about her sufferings at home, not about how jealous skinny, beautiful people make her

Ashmi any question
