Lenny Kravitz eating "organic fruit" during hospital visitation..

I don't even know if the term "organic" for food even existed in 1987 of which this film takes place nor the knowledge that McDonald's and fast food in general was not very healthy... Very unrealistic *beep* scene that did not fit at all.

reply

Seriously, this was not 1945, people in the 1980s were not so ignorant or lacked the knowledge of nutrition.

reply

Lets not kid ourselves here. Organic, when applied to food, was probably an everyday term in the classroom of say Cornell University back in 1987 but not within the general public of say a common hospital in NYC.

reply

Organic food has been around for centuries! Pick up a book!

reply

Fast food has always been fast food, not exactly healthy. It was the 80's, not like it was the 20's or 30's. It was in my lifetime and I'm 29 (born in 1986).

reply

Good lord! The 'organic food movement' began in the 1960's with the Hippie Generation. I know -- I grew up in it! So, the plausibility of Lenny having 'organic' fruit was entirely normal and believable. You're just a few decades behind on the history of the Health Movement . . .

reply

And, entirely concurrent to the growth of health foods stores, it was common knowledge that 'fast food' was fattening and not a particularly healthy day to-day diet. It didn't take a lot to figure that out! By 1987, there were already standards in the food industry regarding what constituted an 'organic'
food. Again, this was old hat to the general public by the 1980's.

reply

Wow. OP is a world-class moron.

reply

Well, the word didn't exist back then in the country I live in. It was called biological food and only few people cared about it, only people with an alternative lifestyle would buy it.

reply

....but yes, it still would have been more common for a hospital to have McDonalds in it back then.

It's only now that hospitals across the country are quickly getting rid of their fast food restaurants--which used to be common place. The girls in the movie (set in the 1980's)expect it will be in the hospital--because this is the society they have grown up in.
