R.I.P Philip Seymour Hoffman

I'm so shocked that Philip has died. R.I.P and all sympathies to his family and friends.

It is my business to protect your majesty.... against all things.

Ditto. A very fine actor. On hearing the news, I realised I had recorded this film on the dvd a while back, so thought to watch as a sort of tribute, or in his memory, or whatever. Confirms what a loss this is. Much sympathy to all who knew and loved him. He'll live on through his excellent work, if that's any sort of consolation. Which I'm sure it's not.

I was surprised and saddened to hear of his death. He was a very gifted actor. I'll miss him.

R.I.P.

I just re watched this film and I thought it was one of Mr. Hoffman's best performances. He was definitely one of the finest actors of his generation, if not the best. Once again, a great loss.

R.I.P Philip Seymour Hoffman. He was brilliant in this film, it's one of my favourites. I'll also be re-watching this again today in his honour. He was a great actor and had so much more to give. Such a shame that he's no longer here.

I watched it last night in PSH's honor and was moved to tears by his extraordinary talent. My favorite film actor , bar none. RIP...

I'm going to run a PSH marathon all week.

I was so shocked to hear the news of his death. I simply loved this actor. He had such a commanding presence, no matter what character he portrayed. And I loved his voice. I too watched this film last night and again today in memorium of him. I think he was stellar in this role....simply sublime. Every gesture was perfection....a greatly nuanced performance.

I'm so sorry this happened. I just loved him so much, and will so miss his art.

I cried when I heard he had died. I felt like I had personally lost something. From the start, you could see his potential-see the talented, brilliant actor he would become. I first discovered him in Twister. Who didn't love Dusty??!? He was even lovable as *beep* Mitch in Patch Adams. Then when I saw him in Doubt, I was blown away. He was truly a master of his craft. He added this extra dimension to his characters that I don't think I've seen from anyone else, except maybe Streep. He was beyond A-list. He was the Alpha List. Then to find out how he'd died, I was heartbroken. To have battled and beaten his demons, to have been clean for SO LONG, only to get sucked back under by prescribed opioid pain meds. It's not fair. As an opioid addict myself, I found myself taking his death personally. And when someone who didn't know a damn thing about what that struggle is like would run their mouth about how "weak" PSH was to let himself develop a drug problem, and call him a junkie, I took that personally too. (That'd be narcissist Jared Padalecki ala Supernatural. A*hole.) Judgment is easy, compassion and empathy are a lot harder. We lost the most brilliant actor of his time, just as his star was reaching it's highest point. I hope he is finally at peace, and his demons have been banished.

I first noticed PSH as a baddie in the remake of The Getaway .

His role was small, but the subtle nuances were already in place.

The same goes for his tiny supporting role in When a Man Loves a Woman.
