This Flick is extremely vague.

SPOILERS.

It looked liked he DID molest that child when he fell for Meryl Streep's bluff and left, but he could have left for many reasons, he could have left because he in fact DIDN'T do anything, but was worried that they would still believe her, he may also have left because of the stigma that would have stayed on him example just being accused of a crime will get people associating you with it even if you're innocent.

I see it as, he did do something to the boy.

But the movie is about Sister Aloysius' doubt in what she did, the truth of the matter wasn't the focus.

Gee Woodle, Space Kadoodle!

reply

The ending was vague as well because as a viewer i was thinking that she actually might have had doubts about actually believing in God.

reply

Yes, it could be taken that way too.

It was her doubts in God being able to stop pedophiles and her needing to step away from his rules to find the truth. That made her doubt God in her life.

reply

I think he's gay and he was helping the kid who was also gay but I don't think he was a pedophile.

reply

You mean you doubt your interpretations of this story? Well, you were warned.

reply

Yes, very vague. Its left up to personal interpretation. Mine is the Priest did not molest the boy. But something about the Priest was a bit off. To me, I thought he was gay -which would have been a real problem for a Priest at any time, but particularly in 1964. As far as Meryl Streep's character - I found her "doubts" to be agonizing for her. When she weeps and says "I have doubts, I have such doubts" - it's that she doesn't believe in or trust anyone - only God. This non stop mistrust results in a tortured existence for her.

Perfect movie title. I'm full of doubt about the priest's sexuality and guilt.
