2001

just a point that this and 2001 both have small amounts of dialogue and large amounts of things happening while music plays,
also the many references, and autopilot looks sort of like HAL when on the up close shot.
but seriously, it's even the same music, twice.

Many people have spotted the similarities.

2001: A Space Odyssey was directed by Stanley Kubrick, who also directed Full Metal Jacket in which the story structure changes drastically 1/3 of the way through the movie (after the boot-camp segment). While watching WALL·E I was very much reminded of this, because WALL·E takes similar turn in its narrative when he follows EVE onto the ship. Perhaps the creators of WALL·E were Kubrick fans?

If you can do it justice, it's not a bad template to use, is it? I'm sure the many references and homages were very deliberately included.🐭

I agree great references

It seems like the pic at guys are really big Kubrick fans.

There's a Shining reference in Finding Nemo, there are tons of 2001 references in the opening of Toy Story 2, and if I'm not mistaken the director of Toy Story 3 even said The Shining was his favorite film and that he owns Danny's Apollo sweater from the film.

And maybe I'm just nuts but I've always thought that Buzz Lightyear's catch phrase, "To infinity and beyond", was a reference to the final chapter of 2001: "Jupiter and beyond the infinite"

Sorry, I meant, "Pixar guys"

No doubt, this is one of the better 2001 homages out there, the film works very much like a silent film and some of the animation is still a technical marvel.
