700+ years?

Like all movies, Wall-E has its flaws, but I really enjoy it overall. But, I'm having a really hard time with them being in space for 700+ years. It shows Wall-E replacing his parts with parts from the inactive Wall-Es, and it's obvious that the Axiom and other ships don't rely on the Earth to get their supplies. But, 700 years seems to be far too long for anything on Earth to still be functioning. I get that they wanted the humans to be blobs with no personal memories of life on Earth, but I think the story would be more believable if it had been something like 100 years.

If the robot was smart enough to repair itself I can believe it. As long as it kept repairing itself and kept it's innards adequately protected, it would be easy enough to fix all the superficial damage on his external hardware. It's far-fetched, sure, but no more far fetched than many science fiction films.
