I'm not surprised, it has a lot of similarities to movies like The Ring and The Eye that all have an average female protagonists up against a supernatural force of evil. The only difference is that this movie was an original idea by the director and not a remake of an Asian film

I agree but it's a lot more than that, though. For example, what makes a remake better or worse than the original? Obviously a movie is more than just the story or every remake would be exactly the same. There have been a dozen movies about the Titanic and they are all different, of course.

The story is only one part of what makes a movie worth watching or not. There's the cast, acting, lighting, sound, soundtrack, cinematography, locations, sets, costumes, editing, color, and more. Two people can make a movie with the exact same script and one can be crap and the other can be beautiful.

This film isn't just getting buzz for the original storyline -- there's a lot more.
