I personally like to think they come from a mirror world, and that they are forced to mirror what we do through our lives. Being sick of this lack of control, they want to live and thus break out of their world. How they break out exactly, and why they waited until now is somewhat hard to describe, but I think it could explain why they are cold or perhaps bitter and want to come into this world. Perhaps it has to do with the frequency of mirrors in our modern society, if this film is in fact attempting to explain why 80% of all known cases of capegras have occured in 'recent' years?
