Some Broken 'Reflections'
I agree that this movie is not difficult to understand. It had a nice twist at the ending and some genuinely creepy moments (I loved when the father’s doppelganger appears from behind him). Symbols and foreshadowing are nicely laced throughout. I enjoyed thinking about the narrative as a statement on (“reflection” of?) post-modern man finding himself fractured by the angst and pressures of contemporary life.
Still, this movie is soooo slow to get started. A modern audience doesn’t need that much setup on either a narrative OR a psychological level. Sorry—but this is the same reason I find The Exorcist hard to watch nowadays. There’s too much meaningless walking set to creepy music—this character walking down this street and that character walking down another. I get it. Move along.
