Slow and pointless shots

I can appreciate a film slowly building up to something and being atmospheric but why on earth are there so many long slow shots in this film?

What is the point and the significance of showing an empty coffee cup for 40seconds? Why do we need to see a car crash in slow motion 5+ times?

It was ridiculous!

I felt the slowest points came right after clues were revealed. It gave you a moment to think about what you'd just seen and attempt to put some of the puzzle together. The only scene I found truly agonizing was the final one with her in the car driving where the sun behind her kept flashing as she passed trees. THAT was far too drawn out and pointless. And honestly, I could have done without the brother seeing her and running. It would have been better to have left off right after she 'saw' what she had done to 'herself', looked in the mirror, and then remembered the crash. That, IMO, would have been a much more effective ending.

It was just a few seconds and it was to let us know that her double had just been there. Gina was puzzled by it.

I think the movie was shot very artistically and I agree that the slowness of the shots made you think of what was really happening. I think the movie is brilliant in many ways. Very intelligent.
