Shot on film???
I call bullshit. This looks like one of the most high-def 4K digital looking movies of the time period.

shareFilm cameras in 2011 are different from film cameras in 1982. Also the lighting and post-production grading techniques differ.
You could hypothetically shoot on film and fuck with it in post production to make it look almost however you want.
I could open The Thing (1982) up on a digital file. Edit the white balance and brightness, add some softness to it, some edge enhancement... whatever I please. So you see your argument doesn't make much sense. There is more to a movies visual aesthetic than simply film vs digital.
It's definitely shot on 35mm film, but I agree it has that crappy digital look. That's because so much of this film was painted with CGI, even in the landscaping shots. The whole film looks so artificial. However, you can certainly tell it's 35mm when it's a scene with two people in a room.
