I think, it's a decent prequel to the original.

I loved the prequel and the 1982 movie on the same level.

I would rather have this movie than not have it...But, it lacks the punch that the other two had...It could have ruled but instead, chose a lesser existence. One thing I couldn't get over and is dwelled upon very well in the original 1951 Thing from another World is this. In that movie, Dr. Carrington goes without sleep and his team are all in making us believe that this is the most important discovery ever and sleep, eat etc. can wait. In this movie, they not only DON'T get excited about the life form in the ice, but they also take their sweet time with the spaceship. A ship form another world intact? Instead, these guys laugh, drink and dance their time away...Now I ask you...Where and what would you be doing?

It's a 10/10. The original is a 6 or so. Carpenters is an 8 maybe.
