VFX of both movies

I just watched both this and the Carpenter movie back to back since the new Scream Factory blu-rat came out.

It's crazy how much better the older movie holds up than the new one, effects-wise. It's nothing new, but it really struck me how ridiculous it is that a 5 year old movie has effects that look cheap and fake, while the 34 year old movie has effects that still look amazing.

This version of The Thing will look so terrible in a few more years while the original is going to keep getting older but still have creatures that actually look like they belong in the shot.

That's subjective.

Many younger viewers who have grew up on CGI find The Thing (1982) to have silly horribly dated puppet effects. I'm serious. Go read some negative IMDb reviews and you'll encounter them.

If the worst thing a movie has going for it are a few dodgy bits of CGI then it sounds like a good movie to me, no?
