A sequel to the 1982 version would be excellent. Anyone agree? If that thing got loose in a major city, it would be complete mayhem. It would have to be a smaller town otherwise it would be difficult too shoot. But the possibilities are endless with it and it would have to be done with a big budget.

Here it is below!
"In January of 1983, an American Rescue Team of 7 people arrive at the burned remains of "OUTPOST 31" where they find the frozen dead bodies of MacReady and Childs. They want to take the 2 bodies back to McMurdo Base but because a large storm is lying between them and McMurdo, they decide to head to another nearby American Base called "OUTPOST 28" which consists of 12 people and stay there until the storm passes over them. However, while there the 2 bodies of MacReady and Childs both transform into monsters beginning the madness all over again. Then to make matters even worse, a 10-Person Soviet Military Team arrives at "OUTPOST 28" with the intention of capturing the monster by any means necessary and killing anyone who gets in their way."
It says it's a sequel on the IMDB page. I haven't seen them, so is this not the case?

In the early 2000's there was a video game on PS2 and Xbox called "The Thing." It is a direct sequel to the John Carpenter film. It was even endorsed by Carpenter himself. He even has a voice cameo in it.
It is about a military team sent to investigate both MacReady's and the Norwegians outposts.
So technically until we get a Hollywood sequel, this game is the sequel. It was made by Universal and endorsed by Carpenter. Check out Wikipedia for full plot details.
