Every episode has a great song or too and a lot of it is from very under-appreciated or relatively unknown artists. I have so many additions to my musci library because of this show.

As a huge beatles fan, discovering Jeff becks version of "a day in the life" at the end of season 5 was like candy to my ears

they used beck's "cause we've ended as lovers" to close out another episode where hank danced with karen.

I agree. I already had a lot of the tunes, but have added several. One of my favorites that I'd never heard before was the cover of Tom Petty's "Time To Move On" by Hi Ho Silver Oh. It was the perfect song as Becca was driving away to go on her writer discovery quest.

Definetely; I wish someone would make an unofficial soundtrack for the series, like they've done with Entourage and others.

At least one person has done it. Just Google "Spotify Californication playlist". If you use Spotify, you should be able to access it easily.
