My youngest son is 13 and his friends make references to Breaking Bad that he doesn't get. So he asked to watch it. I'm re-watching it now and I'll post some thoughts here as we go.
I told my boy that there are some scenes that involve adult behavior and situations. They will be very awkward for him to watch with his parents. My suggestion is for us to just ignore it and pretend that it didn't happen.
I'm going to post some thoughts here as we watch. Hopefully, there are enough people that still have some interest to respond and discuss.
Walt Jr is really a dick from the word go. That little punk needs an ass whipping.
Walter is a jerk and not likeable at all. Maybe I see this differently now that I'm older, married, and have adult kids of my own. Not a great husband. Not a great father.
Skyler is as I remember, such a wet blanket. However, I can't say I blame her. She's in the dark about everything and Walt isn't communicating. I'm not sure how she should react, but I don't think she's out of pocket.
Hank is exactly as a remember. Typical law enforcement, self entitled, self important prick.
Like many others in the 80s, I watched RoboCop (remember the man drench in acid), Terminator, Predator etc... when I was 6 or 7 years old :-) lol (I'm in my 40s now), so 13 should be ok and you are watching it with him. I would like to know his thoughts too as it is his first watch.
Yes on my second watch I hated Skylar less. On first viewing, I was routing for Walt up until Mike, but on second viewing, I stopped routing for him much earlier on.
I loved Hank. :-( He was one of my favourite characters. The scene where Hank's told he is going to work in El Paso and he is smiling with his colleagues, but then when he goes into the lift by himself, he has a panic attack. I thought that was superb acting and showed his vulnerable side. I HATED MARIE and still do.
My son is such a smartass (no surprise), so he makes snarky comments. When Jesse was going on about the sanctity of the coin flip, my son was exclaiming "it's the pinky swear. You have to honor the pinky swear!"
Marie was worst. No redeeming qualities at all.
My wife and I binge watched Breaking Bad the first time around, then when we went directly into Better Call Saul, so we had a bit of a fatigue. That combined with our older two hitting high school and their non-stop activity schedules, we just never found time to complete it. We finished seasons 1 & 2 in real time, but never picked up for season 3. I guess we're due to make time for it.
