Marty McFly and Doc Emmett Breaking Bad?

I accept that this is a random observation, but I just watched Back to the Future and saw the parallels between Brown / McFly and White / Pinkman.

Fatherly scientist befriends young man and they form a special bond for good / evil (as the case may be).

It's like Walter White and Jesse Pinkman are bad alter egos of Doc Emmett Brown and Marty McFly!

What a very, very weak comparison. A mentor figure that's older than the protege he's teadching?! Yes BTTF invented that!

Consider the daffodil. And while you're doing that I'll be over here looking through your stuff.

I thought it was actually pretty funny.

I would have loved to watch a montage of doc and marty cooking up some meth.

Or have Walt saying 'great Scott Jesse!! We've gotta break bad to the future!'

Lol sorry i know that was terrible...but I had to :)

OK, now you got me thinking..."Breaking Bad to the Future - Part 2"...

Doc & Marty land in 2008, in front of the DEA office, to bail Marty's kid out of trouble, after getting caught selling blue meth.

Hank gets into the Deloreon with Gale's lab notes. He lands in 1982 and gives the lab book to himself...still in high school, hanging out at the Cold Stone Creamery, in the good old days (before meeting Marie). Old Hank tells young Hank to seek out a guy named Walter White - a chemistry student that can help decifer the lab notes.

Old Hank returns to 2008 with the Delorean, minus the lab book, but leaves his cane in the car, amongst other things.

While in 2008, Doc & Marty find future Saul, who gets Marty Junior off, just as he did with Badger, years earlier. Doc & Marty then return to the car, to suspiciously find a cane, along with an empty bottle of Schraderbrau. Not sure what this means, they return to 1985, to end their journey.

However, when they return to 1985, they find that the World has changed dramatically. There are drug dealers selling blue meth at every corner. The DEA is run by Hank, a wannabe DEA agent who has been corrupted by a billion dollar drug empire, fueling both the corrupt DEA and the entire country...all at the hands of a college chemistry student, who goes by the name of Heisenberg.

After researching the history of this duo, Doc finds that they started out in ABQ in 1982, by building a superlab, based on plans from the 2008 lab notes. The Schraderbrau in the car confirms that it was Hank. They have to get those notes. Of course, Doc explains to Marty that they cannot just get the lab notes from 1985...they must go back to 1982, and get the notes from young Hank, back when the timeline skewed.

Long story short...they go back and get the lab book, much like in BTTF2, with a truckload of manure landing on young Hank. While in 1982, Marty burns the lab book. They return to 1985 and find all is back to normal.

In addition, after burning the lab book, 2008 Hank no longer has the evidence he needed to go after 2008 Heisenberg. The future of Heisenberg is still unwritten. It's whatever he makes it...so, he'll make it a good one...and may never get caught.

Thanks Moonlighty, I do take you point

But I think the link between Marty / Doc and Jesse / Walter is stronger than the link with, say, Luke Skywalker and Obi Wan Kenobi.

1. Walter / Doc are truly passionate about science
2. Walter / Doc like to explain obscure science to Jesse / Marty
3. Jesse / Marty sometimes understand the science, but are sometimes bored by it
4. Jesse / Marty use modern slang which Walter / Doc don't always understand
6. Jesse / Marty always address Walter / Doc by their formal names ("Mr White / Doc" rather than "Walter / Emmett")
7. Jesse / Marty are shorter in stature than Walter / Doc (because they are physically shorter not because they are not yet fully grown)
8. Jesse / Marty like to wear round neck T-shirts.

Haha! Swolbach, that's hilarious!

But you left out that after Hank returned the Delorean, Skyler took her turn to steal it and travel back in time to tell her young self to stop being a bitch because if she didn't she would always be one.

But Young Skyler...because she was already an entrenched bitch...ignored Old Skyler's advice...

When Old Skyler persisted, Young Skyler said `shut up, shut up, shut up'.

Old Skyler then tried to get back at Young Skyler by sleeping with Young Skyler's boyfriend before it dawned on her that as a form of revenge it made absolutely no sense!

So Old Skyer returned to the modern day in the Delorean and walked into the swimming pool fully clothed. Luckily Doc and Marty were on hand to save her. But, now, after spending some time with her, they regret their decision.

reply

Good one.

As far as saving Skyler goes, Doc should know better than to mess with the space-time continuum.

But seriously, think the real concern would be Skyler going to the future, to see how things turn out post Walt. I expect that Skyler coming into contact with "future Skyler" could result in two possibilities (and neither of these involves Miller Time). One, she goes into shock and simply passes out. Or two, the encounter creates a time paradox, the results of which cause a chain reaction that would unravel the very fabric of space-time continuum and destroy the entire universe. Granted, that's the worst case scenario. If we're lucky, the destruction might be limited to VG's ABQ.

reply

You're right, Swolbach!

Sorry, I've always had trouble thinking fourth dimensionally!

reply

Keep at it, future boy.

One other possible similarity...didn't Walt come up with the idea of the blue meth formula when he slipped and hit his head on the toilet?
