Does Lydia remind anyone of Hillary Clinton?

Bipartisan here.

Or is it just me? Watching the debate last night, so many uncanny subtleties in demeanor...similar "power hungry" type women in a big corrupt world it seems...

They have a lot of similar "self expressions" and money/power goals. Both were moms too and had a kid.

reply

Nope. No comparison. You're comparing a politician to a businesswoman who's engaged in drug activities. Apples to oranges.

reply

You're not very good with analogies are you? Politics IS a business. So, nope apples and apples. And both are sociopaths and criminals.

reply

Trump and Walt are egoistical and power hungry males and dads in a big corrupt world who have kids and money goals - and no self-awareness whatsoever, a habit of deflecting the discussion and blaming everything on someone else. Does Walt remind me of Trump? Not one f-cking bit.

I don't particularly like Hillary (though she's obviously preferable to Trump) but I watched that last debate and she slayed. She was calm, quick, hit every button Trump has and made him look over-emotional and hysterical while keeping herself collected. "Calm and collected" is the very last thing I'd ever call Lydia!

Lydia was very calm and collected. When she didn't have DEA barging in her office, a gun wasn't to her head, and her name or enterprise wasn't at risk. Hillary would be up tight too if the FBI did what they legally and morally need to do which is to hold her accountable for lying to the FBI and obstruction of justice. Both federal offenses. Martha Stewart and General Petraeus both were prosecuted and served time for the same exact offense, but theirs were hard to believe less in blatant nature.

reply

How do you know what Lydia was like? We never see her anything but nervous and jittery, even when she is in control of sorts (explaining the train heist, pitching the Czech deal to Walt.) If anything the biggest complaint against Hillary is that she's robotic.

Basically you're saying they are similar because they are women, have a child and are involved in criminal activities? As I pointed out, Walt and Trump have way more in common. And he's a criminal too, even if you for some reason ignore the pussy stuff then at least of not paying his employees (like Walt initially refuses to with Mike and Jesse) and breaching the Cuba embargo (illicit trade with foreigners? See above for Walt) when it was still in place.

Look I'm not American and will not be voting in this election so you don't have to convince me of anything, Let's just be real here, this thread is a thinly if at all veiled attempt at bringing Hillary up. Just start an OT thread if you want, it's less lazy and unimaginative. It's fine, this election is a big deal, every board has an off-topic thread on it.

Did you watch the show?

Did you see how she handled Declan? When she waltzed into his underground lab before ordering Jack's gang to hit him? How about how calm and collected she was when she came home from work with her babysitter and child? And what about how collected she was when she ordered the hits on Mike's crew?

She wouldn't be as highly successful as she was at Madrigal if she wasn't calm. The show just showed her most under stress because it was tense in every season 5 scene.

And FYI, all your presumptions are inaccurate. This is a straight up non-political question. It's about mannerisms and character types. And Walt wasn't a loud mouthed womanizing alpha male type who yelled constantly so there's no comparison ther.

reply

Yes I did watch the show, I wouldn't be on this board otherwise.

I guess in the deal with Declan I'm so distracted by the shivering lump of 2 minutes later who had to be escorted out by Todd because she was so afraid of seeing a dead body - meaning desperately trying to stay blind to the effects of her actions. This is actually more comparable to Bush Jr who refused to leave that classroom where he was reading to the children about goats or whatever even when he was informed that 9/11 was happening. "If I just don't look it's not happening." Although I guess you can extend this to Hillary as well, because she is part of the US political establishment and they have a habit of ignoring the adverse effects of what they are doing (talking of foreign politics here.)

Even in situations where we can assume maybe Lydia is calm, her demeanor hardly is. Her way of talking is just naturally jittery. I could see her having similar reliability problems as a politician as Hillary, though not for coming across robotic and unemotional, but as nervous and superficially unsure.

Trump isn't an alpha male, c'mon. He postures and compensates way too much. That's not unlike Walt, the whole "I'm the one who knocks!" speech that has become a staple of this show was nothing but hot air. He was terrified for his life for that whole episode and a couple preceding it, he didn't feel like he was "the danger" or that he was in control, so he thought yelling it very loudly would make Skyler at least believe it. Isn't this text book Trump?

(But if you missed it in my first post, I said Walt doesn't remind me of Trump, or vise versa really. But if you use "female, mother, power hungry" as "TWO PEAS IN A POD!" then for the sake of rationality do it with "male, father, egomaniac" as well.)
