crystal blue persuasion montage

It should have featured a quick shot of Walt banging Lydia...he totally should have hit that. I know they say dont mix business and pleasure, but I think it would have been a funny visual lol

Just jokes btw, only messing around lol I wouldn't actually change anything about bb. Lydia was pretty cold blooded, but damn, how hot was she? Cant blame Todd for that one lol

I loved Lydia. She seemed even more ill-fitted for her line of business than season 1 Walt but they both made it work. I mean Lydia was probably the worst hypocrite on the show but still. And she is fine! I like the pale skin, black hair, big eyes combo on women (not so much of men), Jane was gorgeous too although Lydia did dress a lot better. I guess one meth-cooking criminal lusting after her was enough.  Good thing Todd had his crush though, or poor Jesse would have not lasted until Walt's little machine gun robot scheme.

That montage is perfect, even the song is like tailor-made. I'm not mixing it up with something else am I, it's the one that starts with Walt sitting on Hank's couch, crouching down and the scene transitioning to one of the Vamonos Pest houses? That was a damn cool scene-to-scene cut (thinking of it, I can think of only one that I like better in any TV show, anyone who's seen the Game of Thrones season 6 finale can guess which one.) I think this was still the same episode with the prison massacres, should get "best use of montage in a single episode" award.

Nope, that's the one. Nothing like a well-executed montage!

Yeah, Gliding Over All cracks the top 10, if for nothing else, having two of the best montages.

Funny how the songs in BB, for BB fans, will forever now be linked to the show. Having the visuals make the songs that much better, not unlike other music videos, starting with the MTV era.

For example, some songs that you might not have thought as much about before, now take on a totally new feel with the visuals...such as:

- Out of Time Man
- Baby Blue
- Who's Gonna Save My Soul
- Green Grass and High Tides
- Windy
- We Are Born When We Die
- Take My True Love by the Hand
- On a Clear Day You Can See Forever
- Good Morning Freedom
- One By One

Try listening to one of these without picturing the BB scene...not easy.

Note that the last two were both from 4 Days Out...one other episode with two good montages.

Its funny, I heard crystal blue persuasion the other day and of course bb immediately came to mind. And its a song I had heard many times before bb and never particularly took much notice to or cared for, but now I love it. Its cool how context can make you have a whole new appreciation for a song.

My favorite out of all of the ones you mentioned though is take my true love by the hand. That song was perfectly suited for that scene, especially that 'say goodbye to everyone, goodbye to everyone' line. Loved that. Every time I hear it it gets stuck in my head the rest of the day, and it always makes me picture Walt rolling that barrel through the dessert.

Hey swolbach btw, did you ever notice that he rolls right past the pants he left in the desert in the pilot? Hopefully you knew about that already and I didn't ruin an Easter egg for you. But you being you, I'm sure you knew about it...if not, sorry! Lol

'Catch your own train' and 'out of time man' are two songs that have made their way onto my gym music playlist...and the fact they both are synonymous with bb make me love them even more.

The writers were masterful with their song choices on breaking bad.

reply

Yes, know about the pants...but confess that I read about it first - didn't catch it on my own.

Yeah, that's one that really gets stuck in your head. Probably because it's so simple and the visual is mostly all the same...rolling the barrel. And the lyrics...what you mentioned...plus think about the "Lead my true love by the hand, lead her thru the town"...you wonder if that applies to Skyler, after he dies...or his blue meth.

The songs they used from the old west, like this one and "Valley of the Sun" really suited the ABQ landscape well. Can't imagine them filming in CA, as originally planned.

To add onto the list, although to be fair I probably wouldn't even know 90% of the BB songs before watching it, so it was not really difficult to form a link between them and the series.

- Bonfire
- Tidal Wave
- DLZ

Horse With No Name and Major Tom are ones that sometimes make me think of BB but sometimes not.

Tamacun's my favorite track of the whole show probably although I don't think they quite used it as well as it could have been used in the Pilot.

Always think of Jesse falling off the roof with that song. Thought it was actually used well, since the song is a bit all over the place, similar to what's happening on screen, as Walt's putting all the pieces together. Wasn't long after that that he approached Jesse for the first time.

Also like how that one fit well, like many others, with the southwestern theme and imagry. Always like when they were able to work those mountains into the background, like they did here, when they showed Walt watching Jesse get into his "CAPN" car.

Could also see that one used during a montage while cooking early on (before they got good at it) or selling in the streets.

reply

She doesn't seem Walt's type.

reply

No, there are already too many nude scenes of Walt as it is.

reply

Haha. Or at least too many underwear scenes.

reply

You're stretching now Lief. I can see Lydia bent over in a bed doggy style while Walt hits it from behind, but why change one of the best montages in film history from what it already is?

Lydia arrived at the lyric, "all of his children" at the restaurant table sipping her tea, and in the door reflection walking up with her briefcase.

Just pure perfection.

Hahaha that's funny. Thats exactly the way I visualized it too, if it were included. But no as I mentioned, I wouldn't actually change a thing. That montage was phenomenal, but it still would've been funny. Like yeah Walt! LOL

As someone already mentioned though, there was more than enough nude Walt on bb...great point.
