Would Hank have accepted the therapy money?

Considering that Marie kept it a secret from Hank, expect he would have resisted taking Walt's "gambling" money from Walt. Perhaps he would have caved, as it appears it was this therapy that got him walking again.

When Walt asked why it had to be kept secret, Skyler reminded Walt that he too did not want to take "charity" for his cancer treatment. So would Hank's ego have him similarly at fault, in comparison to Walt, if he were told and turned down the money?

And once Hank discovered Walt was Heisenberg, and that he received Walt's money for therapy, is there any part of Hank that realizes he wouldn't be walking if it weren't for that money?

reply

I think he probably would have. After all, gambling is considered a far less offensive/morally reprehensible crime than cooking and selling crystal meth is, and I think Hank would have seen it that way too, even if he had to swallow his pride a little bit. It seemed Marie had little doubt he would take it as well, she just didn't want the drama at the moment.

Considering how Hank felt humiliated over having to relieve himself in a bedpan, that makes a lot of sense.

Not really looking to compare where the money came from, as opposed to whether or not he'd take it as charity. In other words, compare him taking the gambling money to Walt not taking Gretchen's money.

Expect he'd take it. But wonder if knowing that he took that money...if that might change his opinion somewhat as to why Walt looked to making meth to cover his bills. Certainly he wouldn't forgive all the killings, but he might understand the cooking...to some degree.

I don't think so. But along those lines, I think if he had find out Walt's secret only a few months after it began (say by the end of Season 2 at the latest), then his reaction would have likely been very different. He would have probably been more confused than horrified, and been much more understanding.

reply

That might have been an interesting way to go...not that I'd change the anything, but just to ponder...if let's say Skyler told Marie she could give them the money that would allow Hank to walk, but she told her the truth about Walt, instead of the gambling story. So Marie would have to choose to accept Walt's career in order to allow Hank to walk. Might have been an interesting option.

Yeah, would have been cool as an alternate idea. There would have always been that dramatic tension that at any moment, Marie could crack and tell Hank the truth, and it would have also have been a cool way of making Hank feeling disillusioned when he learned his own wife was keeping it a secret from him for most of that time.

He probably realized there wouldn't be any attack on him if not Walt's activities aswell.

Also I think Hank would go *beep* over Marie if she even suggested such a thing, he wouldn't take that money for sure, I don't know if gambling is illegal in USA, but it's not the issue, Hank would be way too prideful for that.

Remember how Hank felt humiliated over having to relieve himself in a bedpan. His pride had taken a great hit by the fact that he now had to rely on other people to help him go through daily activities. I think Hank would accept anything if it got him back to walking on his own two feet faster.

One thing that would change, though, is that when Hank found out Walt was Heisenberg, he'd have likely also realized right away that he'd been paying his bills with drug money, rather than learn about it from the "faux confession" and from Marie.
