Imagine a bad Breaking Bad cast

... I'll start with Larry Miller as Hank.

add Rob Lowe as Walter.

Well, they originally wanted Matthew Brodick to play Walter White, so there's that.

reply

Yeah it was Matthew Broderick or John Cusack that they original had in mind. Okay I love Cusack and think hes a solid actor, but I can't see him having the ability to portray the range of emotions Cranston did so well. And Broderick? That would have been a train wreck.

Its almost impossible to picture anyone but Cranston though imo. He made that role his own. Just an unbelievable performance. To me he will always be my fav actor now.

reply

Just for fun though ill take a shot

Hank - Michael chiklis

Skyler - Sharon stone

Jesse - emile Hirsch

Gomez - John leguizamo

Mike - John Lithgow

Marie - shannen Doherty

Gus - Laurence fishburne

Lydia - I want to say Winona Ryder, but I think its probably the mental connection I'm making to her from the name Lydia in beetlejuice. Crazy thing is I can almost see her playing a terrible lydia lol

Saul - woody Harrelson

Walt - Billy bob Thornton? I have no freakin idea lol

reply

Overall,I think your cast might actually do a good job of it.

reply

LOL!

Hank - Kevin James

Skyler - Jennifer Garner

Jesse - Jesse Eisenberg (of course)

Gomez - Cheech Marin

Mike - Sam Waterston

Marie - Marcia Gay Harden

Gus - Jaleel White

Lydia - Kate Winslett

Saul - Neil Patrick Harris

Walt - Bryan Cranston (I would love to see what he could do with THIS ensemble cast)

reply

It's difficult to imagine anyone but Cranston in the part, he was so perfect. The only other actor that has come to my mind a few times as someone who'd probably have done Walter White justice is Kevin Spacey.

I like Cusack but uh, Matthew Broderick. Can't see that at all. I can't really come up with any castings that would have been bad but aren't totally ridiculous - as in some that could actually have realistically happened. Like if they had cast someone who'd look more like an actual drug user as Jesse, we'd now look at Aaron Paul and think he would have been way too pretty to convincingly pull off Jesse (I think that was an actual concern of AMC's or whoever's when Gilligan cast him) but yo, it couldn't have worked more perfectly.

Yeah I cant remember where id read it but it absolutely was apparently. They felt Aaron Paul was too good looking for the role.

Its crazy they were going to kill him off in season 1, what a different show it would have become.

My choices were deliberately poor choices, and you're right, I cant picture anyone else in those roles either, they were so good. I feel like the show and characters were so iconic that the main actors on bb will always be remembered for the roles they played on the show. Like many people will probably always refer to AP just as 'jesse from breaking bad'

I honestly don't think Breaking Bad would have stuck with me if they had killed Jesse off at the end of season 1. I mean I love most everything about the show, but Jesse's the heart of it for me. He's the only major character on BB I never stopped rooting for and who I pretty much always sympathized with - the "pretty much" being because of the season 3 "let's skim Blue from the top and sell it to addicts" storyline which I hated. He's my favorite TV character ever, there isn't even very strict competition at the moment (not since HBO and Game of Thrones decided to take a big dump on Jaime Lannister. )

From back when Fallon made an effort to put on a good show.

reply

Haha yeah. I used to love Fallon, but the cringey fake laugh is just...well, cringey. And the games he always plays with his guests aren't really funny at all most of the time. He does occasionally do something great, like the Obama "thank you letter" segment and the Star Wars theme songs thing from last year but he's not one of my favorites any more. (Granted, I'm not in the US so it's not like I ever see full talk shows, except John Oliver, just some stuff on YouTube.)

But the Joking Bad thing was really good, although they overdid it with the "bitch". As if it came a surprise after every sentence....
