Why do people hate Hank?
He was one of my favorite characters. Why does he get so much hate? He's really just doing his job and works harder than anyone else on TV I've seen...

shareYou're liable to hear a lot of non-honest answers, but the truth is that a lot of folks were just so enamoured with Walt that they have an irrational/exaggerated hate for anyone that opposes him (Hank, Skyler, Jesse, etc.)

I think I just wrote this in some other thread, but yeah I really disliked Hank. The only point in the story I liked him at was in season 5B because while I loved Walt as a character I despised him as a person, and really wanted to see him taken down. I also think Hank's death served a good purpose in waking Walt up from his "I'm doing this for the family so everything I do is justified" delusion.
I found Hank loud, obnoxious and arrogant. The way he treated criminals (big or small) was childish and unprofessional. There was that incident with taking pics of the "dumb, dead criminal" for one, and then Jesse gave him some solid info on the entire Heisenberg case and he couldn't care less if he lived or died. His "oh my poor male ego" temper tantrums after being injured at Marie after were insufferable at best (and I didn't even like Marie, she's in the annoying category with Hank.) I didn't find him to be very likable and he wasn't good enough as an agent to warrant his ego although I'm not saying he was terrible, he was right about Gus.

lol You sound easily annoyed. And how was he not a good enough agent to warrant his ego? They made him the ASAC for a reason.
shareHeisenberg was under his nose for what, two years? Then when he finally catches him does he do the professional thing and alert anyone? No. He goes off on his own getting himself and his parter killed and their informant kidnapped. Great police work. Look man, I'm not saying he sucked as an agent. I'm just saying he wasn't good, skilled or clever enough to warrant his ego. In my opinion. If you like him, good. So you can chill and dial down the defensiveness.

lol I'm not being defensive at all. And it's easy to see why he didn't realize Walt was Heisenberg before, and why he didn't alert the authorities once he did (his reputation, career, and possibly his freedom was on the line.)
shareWell, I presented my points about why I don't like Hank and your immediate response was a simple "lol you must be easily annoyed", which I found rather defensive. Some people like one character and some people the other, mileage varies. Like Jesse is my favorite character but I know he annoys some people.
I guess Hank was blinded by his trust in Walt. But this:
it's easy to see why he didn't realize Walt was Heisenberg before, and why he didn't alert the authorities once he did (his reputation, career, and possibly his freedom was on the line.)
Because he's a typical bully cop. Look at the way he treats the prostitute, the people he interrogates, the way he bullied folks. He's not a likable guy.

...and a very outgoing, loud personality. Quite the opposite of Walt, who was (since the Pilot) a quiet, cerebral type.
And the fact that Junior gravitated more towards Hank, idolizing him, really ate away at Walt...even if Hank didn't see it. It all came out at the pool side party..."My son, not yours!"
Oh, yeah. Let's not forget the way he treated Marie when she was nursing him back to health. She was so good to him and he treated her like crap.

Well that's because Hank felt humiliated that he had to be assisted in doing basic functions, like relieving himself into a bedpan.
shareBut that doesn't make him less of a jerk. You don't get to treat people like crap just because you feel like crap.

Because he breaks the law, violates the characters constitutional rights and he uses children to achieve his objective which is....A PROMOTION

I don't hate him. He's incredibly well written and portrayed. He's very much from the same mould as other policemen I know: bigoted, racist, small-minded, conservative (and Conservative). Also very loyal to the small number of people he can relate to.
Forget it Jake. It's Chinatown.
Everything you just said is 100% wrong. The vast majority of policemen are upstanding citizens who want to protect the innocent. Hank was a piece of sh!t who abused the system for his own personal benefit.

Yeah, like most cops. If police would police their own, then we would have more respect.

Hank was an arrogant, belligerent, law breaking rogue DEA agent whose death was more than satisfactory to me. His main motive for pursuing Heisenberg was to capture him and inflate his already fat ass ego. I never saw any glimmer of humanity in Hank while he was supposed to be doing his job.
"Id rather kill myself than commit suicide"
lol Please, son. You know you're just the type of cat who is so in love with Walt that you hate Hank by proxy. To say there was never a glimmer of humanity in Hank is stretching things like plastic man with his dick caught in a zipper.
shareI dont hate Hank. Hank is typical ambisious cop how wanted solve case of Heisenberg, He is just human and realistic cop. I think Hank was ok
shareI lost all respect for him after he ruined Kaylee Ehrmantraunt's life and didn't even seem to care.

You mean when he confiscated Mike's illegally obtained drug money that Kaylee wasn't entitled to in the first place? Yeah, that was really awful.
shareHe's the epitome of the type of cop who has no problem ruining lives and violating natural/constitutional rights all for the sake of narcotics(which the federal gov't has no constitutional authority to do in the first place). "Just doing his job" doesn't fly.
