Gus was the joker to Walter White's Batman.

I often thought by virtue of the name White, was a Black man cast to be his nemesis but equal yet polar opposite? Everything Walter is,Gus is. Smart, cunning, evil, enterprising, vindictive and murderous. Yet,they were opposites in other ways. Race, culture, language, objectives. They played a game of cat & mouse and realized both had qualities that made each other equals in deviousness.

I don't think so.

The Joker is Batman's dark mirror; a reflection of what Batman could have become and still could if he ever gave in to his worst impulses. There's a true duality in their dynamic.

Walt and Gus are the same side of the same coin. Towards the end of the series Walt effectively becomes Gus, his reign at the top is just shorter and not as successful.

Yes. And one could also argue that Walt was far worse than Gus by the end. Walt was ultimately, admittedly, egocentric and selfish, all while operating under the false pretense of providing for his family. Gus actually did provide for other non-criminal elements and successfully ran a business that enriched the community in which he also sold drugs.
