First glimpse of Jesse's "potential"

Something that just occurred to me when watching the series again - in season 1 when Skylar first confronts Jesses and she said "I know everything! Walt told me!" or whatever. Instead of panicking and talking first, Jesse just kept silent and waited for her to tell him what she thought she knew.

It's a little thing, but it's interesting to watch him think more. Too bad he didn't use it for good.

He also learned alot from Mr. White in those early cooks. He didn't seem too enthusiastic at the time, but when he later cooked with Badger, you could see all that he retained...boiling flasks, foggy meth, etc. He "applied himself" alot more the second time around with Walt...not so much, duting his Chemistry class.

I saw that the other day but thought he was rooted to the spot in fear....

I also think "My name is Skylar White, yo. My husband is Walter White, yo." was one of the funniest lines of the series.

LOL SSchroeder! Followed later by "please don't say yo...you have no idea how much I hate that."

Good comments, and agree with the poster who said he was rooted in fear. He still did a pretty good job of keeping a poker face and he was learning pretty quickly from the early cooks.

That's funny... I took notice of that scene when watching the series a second time too. We think of Jesse and his motor mouth at times, but he kept his cool (for whatever reasons) and didn't run his mouth.

It is interesting to see the dichotomy of Jesse: his weaknesses snd his potentials and how both evolved over time. Jesse had some great ideas at times--sometimes was the one to be pensive when others were "going off"--but it's generally his mistakes (that are generally governed by pure emotion) we remember, as they had big consequences. And while he had some fantastic ideas, he didn't work alone in achieving them, so people (especially non-Jesse fans) tend to not focus on them.

But Jesse's potential grew into coming up some fantastic ideas; making a battery to get Walt and him out of the desert when death was coming, the magnet idea for the laptop, the train heist without killing the employees on the train. With just those three, Jesse's role in bringing the plan to fruition became more instrumental. So to see little nuggets of his potential early on is interesting, especially when they can be masked by his continual mistakes.
