In the "trivia" section, it suggests Juliette received attention from men because she was the only non-arabic women on the streets. Not so: she received unwelcome attention only when she went out on the street with her head uncovered. When she wore a scarf over her hair, it didn't happen.
She received attention simply coz Egyptian guys are jokers. Lots of Egyptian women dont wear hyjab so that isnt the case, and on the other hand there are alot of Westerners roaming the streets of Cairo anyway, given that its a huge tourist destination n'all. All she needed to do was give a little attitude back, and guys wont bother her. But most Egyptians are decent anyway .
Would they really give a woman that age a second look? I'm not saying anything against Patricia (hell, she's about my age) but women our age don't get those looks much anymore.
It is my guess that you have not spent much time outside North America. In all the places I have been outside NA, a woman's attractiveness does not stop after she reaches 30.
It is true I am younger than Patricia Clarkson, but I am still old enough to have stopped drawing much attention in the states. But I have also travelled abroad with my mother, who is older than Clarkson, and she draws attention outside the states, as well.
It does not stretch credibility at all that a 50-year-old woman would be found attractive in Cairo, even by men much younger.
Her hair color and the shortness of her dress also attracted their attention. Cairo metro trains have the 4th and 5th cars reserved for women only to stop constant sexual harrassment. Women can still ride in cars with men if they wish.
