In the beginning of the movie, they were talking about Ted, who apparently owns the cabin. Clip from the dialogue.
- Have you heard from Ted?
- He's not here yet?
...or something like that. But the point was, what a hell happened to him? Why didn't he come? I don't remember, that it was explained in the movie, but if it was, could somebody tell me?
Remember how no one was at the gas station at the beginning of the movie?
Remember how that one guy mentions that there are no other campers at the lake? No sounds? No smells of cookouts?
I guess that this force had already been there and killed everyone. My guess is that Ted is dead.
yeah, I remember the gas station, but I must have missed the other thing. But that is probably the reason, thank you :)

Yeah, the "evil" things seemed to be hinting that this force was happening all over the world, and that the two girls at the end might be the "last two." I do think they could have done something to explain Ted since they mentioned it so much. One of the few holes that made what could have been a great movie into just a "good" one.
The other major problem with this film is that they killed off the hottest guy first. Not cool.
