Defintely Worth Seeing

Just saw Dead Mary on premium cable. I didn't expect much, having never heard of it before, but it's actually a better than average horror film. The cinematography, direction and acting are all first rate. I was surprised, coming here, to see how many people had left angry posts denouncing the film. This is not the type of movie where someone gets their head cut off in the first minute. Instead, the film takes time in the first third to let us get to know the characters, and their relationships to each other, while subtly building suspense. I also liked the fact it's never clearly explained why everything is happening, or the extent of the "takeovers" (although there are clues throughout the movie.) If you're unsure whether or not to see this movie, I would definitely recommend renting it, or trying to catch it on TV. It's atmospheric, spooky, and has some great scenes.

I thought this was the most boring horror flick I have ever seen. I love Dominique Swain and wish she would stop doing blatant B movie crap and do more indie films like Plain Dirty. She is better suited for smaller supporting parts where you wish you could see more of her like Alpha Dog (even though this film was not great).

I just happened to stumble upon two dead girl themed movies in one night. I think you should give Dead Girl a try starring Toni Collette and Brittany Murphy. Now that movie was a pleasant surprise and I thought much more suspenseful.

I agree. With these low budget cabin movies you're probably in for the worst script, the worst acting, and the worst directing possible. However, this one really stood out as a solid movie. I was intrigued by the story, and the acting and suspense and gore were all well done. The film also ended on an interesting note, so that's always a plus. I give this movie credit for not being standard trashy b movie fare.

Well, I don't think our posts were "angry." I am an avid horror and slasher film fan. I really don't think I will be taking your advice on "understanding the difference between horror and slasher." You should see a few good horror films -- and slasher films for that matter -- if you want "right creepy." Just because you disagree with someone's opinion about a movie does not mean they are angry or they don't understand the difference between horror and slasher.

Do you realize how pretentious you come off? Who cares? Wiki? Really?

Do you think if you made your argument to somebody in person that they would care? Seriously, I just can't stand people, passive agressive, that do these long drawn out posts and then don't like the feedback they get. Everyone is a troll; right? Give me your opinion, don't spout off some trash that you cut and pasted from Wikipedia. At least calling me a troll and telling me that I am "ignored" came from you. You need a bibliography at the end of your posts from now on. And you need a big hug.

Umm, using wikipedia as factual backup does make for a good argument.

You know that sound Goofy makes when he falls? That's my quote.

Did you mean to write "doesn't" instead of "does"? I'm guessing you did, as wiki isn't really the most reliable source ... especially in a debate about what constitutes atmosphere/slasher horror.

Yeah, kinda kills my own argument when you forget the rest of a contraction. I may as well have quoted wiki myself :o(.

Okay OP don't lie to everyone. This movie was NOT 'first rate' or a better than average horror film. Gosh that statement alone made me cringe! This movie was extremely lame and soooooooo boring. Bad acting, bad script,on and on I could go. Please if you have not seen the movie yet, don't bother. I wish I hadn't.
