So, What Was IT?
Supernatural, Virus, a combination of both?
If it was a virus, what did Dead Mary have to do with it?
first a Gravesender.now a New Yorker.always a Gravesender.

Even though this movie is 10 years old, i'll use the spoiler, so not to ruin it. The movie is a about the rapture. It has nothing to do with a single demon named evil mary or anything like that. I wonder if they did that on purpose to be cute, or too cool for school, but based on the reviews here; the misdirection really pissed everyone off.
If you watch it again with that in mind it makes sense. Granted you still might call shenanigans on it, but they tip their hand multiple times. Basically in the first few seconds they show you people have disappeared instantly (gas station empty but everything on), the phones don't work. The one person they don't bash is Ted, who is "missing". Eve suddenly eats meat, which signifies a major change in her character, based on the reaction she gets when she says that. Later those who play the "game" all have done something back stabbing to one of their friends /wives. You could argue that the "game" only serves to double down on the plot point that they are reaching out to the devil. Later after Dash turns, he says this is the Apocalypse, WE want you, and you're going to be looking over your shoulder for us (at this point i think the writers figured they were just gonna go ahead and clue everyone in in case they missed it). After, he tells his wife that he can't wait because soon she will have something to really cry about. Baker also comments to the audience that no one is at the beach, everyone is gone. Now with that said, i can't tell you why they were left behind, but it seems they were. It also seems that Eve was turned before the movie started (before Matt and Kim get there)
So, I like b-horror. By my standards its not a bad movie. I think some pieces that would flesh it out better were left on the editing room floor. My only peeve is it should have marketed itself as what it was and not try to hide it behind multiple fake synopsis. Cloverfield it is not, its a b-movie, and probably deserves to be rated a little higher then it currently is. My opinion would be 6 out of 10.
