Did your research discover why the big crossover? Was it the creator of TWD involved in the past with King stuff and brought the people he knew and had worked with before? I remember watching TWD in season one and noticing all the Mist people. I didn't know if they had all done a lot of projects together or if they had just finished the Mist and then TWD came out and they just stayed together.

The do believe the key is, Frank Darabont. He created, "The Walking Dead". As one of their first directors he had previously worked with King extensively. And until he was fired off the show it was even suggested that Stephen King would actually be writing an episode or two.

To give credit where it is due Darabont created the TV show but the story, the characters, story line etc. - the TWD universe all fleshed out, was created by Robert Kirkman, in his long running comic book..
