He acts like a 5yr old girl! Crying and sucking his thumb! I know it's a small community, but really? Are all kids pussies like that in small towns? I don't think so.

Some kids have more guts than others. Some rise to the occasion, some shrink. Same as adults, but... yes... to me he was annoying.
When this was all over, I think I'd have sent him to a Western summer camp for a bit of character building (not meant sarcastically).
I believe the character was actually 5 in the book. Which would make more sense for why someone needs to be holding him the entire time.
