Underrated

Such a well made film, wish we had more creepy movies like this.

This is a Criterion Blu-ray release and the "genius" would be film critics on this site rate the picture 6.6. "Houston, we have a problem" with the numbskulls on IMDb.

They rather upvote blockbusters like Batman or The Avengers, and by doing so this website loses credibility when it comes to ratings (generally of course).

The only thing good about this film was Willem Dafoe.

Well judging by the fact that he constitutes 50% of the cast (i don't count the little boy) I'd say it's not so bad. And of course i totally disagree with you. Plus... Such an easy and common that it is to praise Defoe. Even in movies where he was awerage at best people blindly praise him.

Lars von Trier makes these films that SEEM controversial but in this day and age really aren't. It's sexual when it's supposed to be sexual, it's emotional when it's supposed to emotional, creepy when it's supposed to be creepy etc etc... I know he set out to make a Horror Film and didn't quite make one but it definitely has alot of the underlying elements. I don't know many films that accurately display depression but this (As well as the the others in the Trilogy) is as close as it gets. It's stylized so we see it in odd ways but imo it helps the film. We need more filmmakers like Trier. People who aren't afraid to push the boundaries of Cinema. Gaspar Noe is another. Sex shouldn't be taboo. It's a part of life.
