Beautiful final image

Nixon alone, standing in front of the ocean by his new pair of shoes. Even shoes are in pairs, but he's alone. I thought that was a beautiful image. By the way, unexpectedly great movie.

Yes i thought the exact same. Strange, i felt strangely moved for the man.

Any idea what the piece of music from that scene is?

well Nixon is such a sad figure...I mean he did terrible things but like he said they were mistakes of the heart not head...not that it excuses anything, but he was a man who was obviously tormented by his decisions the rest of his life.

JimmyPSX, in real life Nixon's decisions were very calculated and self-serving, with no thought for the consequences to others. I'm not sure the movie meant to portray him as having regrets about his decisions. I believe that in real life, and possibly in the movie, he had very deep regrets about getting caught and losing his political career, his power, and the spotlight.

I couldn't agree more. I figured that I would like this movie, but, I found it to really captivate me. It was outstanding. I, too, felt some sense of sympathy for Nixon. I thought Langella was outstanding in his role and really he and the script humanized Nixon, somewhat. You really did get the sense that he knew he had committed wrongs and the heavy burden his sins had upon him. Final scene was just fantastic.

I didn't feel sorry for Nixon, but I had a better understanding of the complex man. Yes, heymrbluesman, I agree with you . .. .Nixon knew he had committed wrongs. .., and worse the whole world knew also. What a burden! What better way to remedy that then just retreat from the world and try to find peace.
