Who are the couple at the end?

And why was everyone so excited to see them? What did I miss?

That was Bernadette the founder of the book club, and the guy she had just married. She calls him her husband in Spanish, and holds up her hand to show them the ring.

I watched it again and realized it finally, but she looked so different from the rest of the film I did not remotely recognize her.

I believe it was Prudie's husband who remarked to the others that the he (the husband) hadn't read a word of Austen!
