Did Dean know?? SPOILERS

Did he know Prudie was going to have an affair? He asked if it was her last book club, and also when she returned and ask him to read Persuasion he said sarcastically 'isnt that what your special little book club is for'....makes me think he knew or suspected. Maybe he even saw her sneaking out the car when Trey was in there, although the movie implies he didnt see this??

i don't think he knew.
i took the line: 'isnt that what your special little book club is for'
to mean that he didn't need to be bothered with her "better than thou" aura and that's why she was in the book club so he wouldn't have to read it.

i'm proud to admit to never have watched a "reality" tv program!

Prudie had been treating him like dirt since her mother's funeral. I don't blame him for getting in a little dig about the book club. She had a very superior air about her, as referenced the first time she met the others at Starbucks. Speaking French, which obviously no one else could understand, putting down Allegra's "hand made hippie crafts", etc. At the library dinner, she said very sarcastically that "my husband thinks Austen is a city in Texas." She's lucky Dean didn't bitch-slap her.

I actually thought he may have suspected something when Prudie came back wearing something completely different than what she had worn when she left. They never confirm whether he suspected anything; I don't think it was even implied.

Good point. He knew something was seriously wrong in their relationship and maybe not that Prudie was cheating, but that she might cheat in the near future. The book club was just another way to shut him out of her life.

Agreed. Especially with the rather snide, 'Isn't that what your book club is for?' when Prudie wanted him to read Persuasion.

I believe he did suspect something. First of all in the scene where he comes to the school to tell Prudie about her mother, as shown in the scene, it's difficult to believe that he didn't see trey sneaking out of the car since he was looking in that direction. Also he had to notice that she was wearing something completely different when she led him to believe she had returned from the beach. I also noticed that when she returned, he was sitting there twisting his wedding band which sort of suggested he knew something and maybe was contiplating taking it off or confronting her with his suspicions.
