I think this movie would probably be the perfect example of what I'm looking for: a movie that takes place during Autumn and looks/feels like it. A lot of movies try to do this but never really succeed.
There are plenty of Tales From The Darkside episodes that capture the Halloween/Autumn vibe. Here are some of the best episodes to catch on Youtube..
HALLOWEEN CANDY - This is about an old miserly man that's had enough of trick or treaters for Halloween. In the wee hours of the night, he gets visited by a strange visitor.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BafU9NgCXEg
TRICK OR TREAT - A mean miserly old man turns his house into a house of horrors that all the kids are afraid to enter. He gets visited by a witch and other creatures of the night. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOywuqGlRgU
The TV series, Are You Afraid Of The Dark? has one episode that is among one of my favorites for this seasonal vibe. It is a kids series, but still very effective. Here's the one that should do the trick..https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMmgdiwTG5s
Some more movies you might want to check out..
Funhouse Clownhouse Dark Night Of The Scarecrow
Everything mentioned here is among the best and most Autumnal atmospheric stuff out there. You're welcome.
The original Halloween was shot in the spring/summer. The grass in all of the neighborhood scenes is nice and green and there are bright green leaves on the trees. Production did scatter some dried leaves on the lawn but every time I watch it, I can't see late October.
Satan's Little Helper is very underrated. I always watch that movie on Halloween or the day before. Its not perfect, but it has a good plot with lots of twists and interesting action.
PARANORMAN is a wonderful autumnal treat. It plays homage to a good few classic horrors and really takes you back to being 'that horror movie kid' in school - when Halloween was christmas and Trick 'r Treating was your annual escape! It's score is something I listen to throughout the year as well - just dripping with autumn! Gah all excited now!
DONNIE DARKO is a film I revisit every October. It's one of my all time favourite films, and it takes on a whole new life during the season of Halloween. Mostly because the events of the film take place throughout October, counting down towards October 28th. Autumn ultimately acts as the films backdrop - as Donnie pieces together clues and happenings that lead him to the films finale at the Halloween party. It's a definite autumnal horror!
Ernest Scared Stupid and Hocus Pocus. Yes, they're kids movies, but they have that autumnal feel to them. I know this because I specifically watch these films every October because they have that feel.
I've never seen that. I've never seen anybody drive their garbage down to the street and bang the hell out of it with a stick. I-I've never seen that.
I saw the first few minutes of a movie called Needful Things the other day...set in the fall, had great shots of leaves blowing and autumn decorations..didnt get to finish it all so im not sure what its about
The Hollow..Kevin Zegers is in it. Kind of hokey and more kiddy, but Great halloween atmosphere, i really like it. Its a sleepy hollow type film
Spooky Buddies..kids film but has halloween vibe
Halloweentown kids films
Goosebumps series The Haunted Mask..set on Halloween its great. Also a few more goosebumps episodes set around halloween if you search for them
The Strangers, says its set in February but actually looks more like fall to me. The setting is fall colors, the masks etc..great spooky film
Sometimes They Come Back, maybe
Jeepers Creepers 1, possibly 2
Ginger Snaps, great autumn atmosphere, Halloween scenes
What Lies Beneath..not halloween, but i seem to recall it being set in the fall and its creepy
Scream 1 always reminded me of Halloween, I think based on the setting, their clothes, the party, and of course the mask
Halloween H20.. I thought had good autumn vibe
American Horror Story tv show season 1 overall has a spooky vibe, loved the settings and creepiness. Also has a couple halloween episodes, and 1 episode based on the strangers, people in masks breaking in, 60s nurse murders and ghostly nurses
I believe there is a film called Mischief Night being released soon, set during halloween
Those take place in the Spring. In both films someone says something along the lines of "Every 23 years, on the first day of Spring, for 23 days he gets to eat." That was one of the taglines for the second film, and the first film closes with a piece from Igor Stravinsky's "The Rites of Spring"
It rubs the butter on it's skin, y'all.
