Im not a drug fanatic or a hippi, but is it really worth of shooting someone because of weed? Or any drug?
If this is the reality in Rio de Janeiro, i feel very sorry for the victims and also for the members of BOPE, who are brainwashed to kill people like that. They even torture young boys and women.
And how much does it cost to educate these BOPE members? I think it is very expensive for the society.
You've made a very good point. I've been trying to think of something to say for some time on this, I think at the end of the day you have to decide which is worse, BOPE or the drugs.
I don't do drugs but I lived in Rio and MANY people do, so I think that they should just be allowed, why punish people for doing something that so many really want to do?
I think it extends beyond "they should die for smoking a joint". The gang members try to control the town, they walk around with illegal guns, etc. You cant have armed gangs running parts of the country.
i agree. i don`t think weed is the best thing ever (smoked it myself for a while) but its also not that terrible. people shouldn`t have to live in fear just because they like to smoke it. if it was legal the government could tax it just like tobacco and the gangs wouldn`t be able to make money off it.
the things that the tropa de elite did in this movie were just insane and inhuman.
Have you seen City of Good? That movie focuses on the drug lords. And I got to tell you, the drug dealers are *beep* insane as well. They use violence all the time. The only way to stop bad people is to give them a taste of their own medicine. This is exactly what BOPE is doing. They were really the only good and honest ones in this movie. The students were hypocrits, cops were corrupted and the gangs needs no explanation. BOPE simply just wanted to stop the drug lords and in order to achievie this, they give the drug lords a taste of their own medicine; Violence.
yeah, like when he said "how many kids have to die for a joint?" just as the users is the reason for the war between bope and the drug dealers as if the laws and goverment had nothing do with it. ok theyre stupid fake hypocrites and all that but theyre still not the ones pulling the triggers.
That's been working well in the middle east huh? Oh wait, no it hasn't. They've been at war for a couple thousand years.
----------------------------------------------
WTF, you really think the troubles in the Middle East are about "bad people"? Maybe about the occupation of land and the control of resources? Are you this naive, to think that ppl just wake one day and decide to go shoot other ppl and throw rockets at each other, because they are "bad".
Well, so has europe been at war for some thousand years, with some small interruptions. Jugoslavia, rings any bells?
You assumed all of that, I didn't imply any of it. All I implied in my post was that more violence is not going to solve the problem, and gave the middle east as an example. Europe is actually an example of what I'm saying: you can see there that the more civilized countries gradually move away from violence as a method for solving a problem, and get into less wars as time goes by. And I wouldn't have called Yugoslavia one of the more civilized european countries...

That's a very naive and one sided way to look at this thing.
Cocaine, meth, weed and heroin trading people aren't rastafaris with smilie faces. Who tickle people with feathers if they've done something they feel as a threat.
What clichés? Thats a word the wannabe critics use when they want to whinge.
