Wasn't it a bit ill-advised to put the entire squad at risk of gruesome death to make a point? I doubt that happened in real life. There's a fine line between badass and insane, that was insane.

I agree that the captain was being reckless by doing that but, its not a matter of being badass or simply getting his point across. As its shown in the movie, BOPE combatants are trained under the most stressful and extreme situations and he intended to keep it that way, after all they are not a mere police unit, they are a highly trained squad only called to handle the situation when it gets out of control. He would never tolerate anyone snoozing while he was speaking or during any other activity, hence justifying his extreme attitude.
