The Indian character is annoying and out of place...

It seems thrown in as a blatant way to add some other type of ethnicity....Disney is the king of this....what went from being great and imaginative cartoons, it went to a freaking foreign language lesson.....

Well the Indian kid on Jessie (I think the name is Ravi) is really stereotypical.

I guess Baljeat is stereotypical too, but at least he is funny haha. He's probably my favorite character in Phineas And Ferb

reply

The problem with Baljeet is they use some of the oldest stereotypes in the book to define him.

He has an "arranged friendship" (vs. marriage) with that girl in "That Sinking Feeling", all he cares about are grades, doing math makes him happy, he constantly corrects others, etc.

Those are negative aspects, but they use them for laughs... Unlike Ravi ("Jessie") whose only real stereotype is his thick accent since Karan Bar doesn't even talk like that in real life. Aside from the way he talks, Ravis is pretty normal considering he was adopted last year and by wealthy Jolie-Pitt-type parents...

reply

Yea he is overly stereotypical. I mean jus a clear hyperbole! I love the show but sometimes it's like dude...that is so freaking racist! But like u said it's all for laughs.

reply

Ya he can be pretty annoying and just plain rude. Not that that would be a stereotype but his character is just so obnoxious. He acts all tough to Buford but then wimps out when Buford says anything slightly harsh towards him.

reply

He did have a non stereotypical character in the episode "Ferb TV" in which he plays sort of a character in faux tv show called "Dr. Ninja Baljeet (in color)"

reply

1. Actually, this show was a groundbreaker in terms of modern animation and allowed shows like Adventure Time, Regular Show and Gravity Falls to be made. At least, in my opinion.
2. I do agree with you, I can't stand Baljeet. My least favorite character.

I think america should stop this. like stereotyping indians in every tv series and movie. i am an indian and i hate baljeet character or the way he picturised. he is not even funny. may be thats the way a dumbass american wanted to see an indian, i don't know indians in america live and behaves like that. cmon please stop this nonsense already

reply

Other countries stereotype Americans in media as well. Not saying that it makes it OK, or that it happens as frequently, but it's not like it only happens in America.

reply

What? other countries stereotype Americans? i've never seen that in any movie, tv series etc. by the way it happens in America a lot more than any other country in the world. Watch Sopranos season 02 episode 13. A rant against Indian food. Don't you think that's insulting.
