The door is WIDE open for a sequel.

Most horror movies don't require more than the killer's long lost cousin one hundred thousand times removed to suddenly say "hm, I feel like murder today, chaps" to make a sequel.

But The Collector has so much sitting right there, that it'd be silly for them not to make a continuation. I mean, look at the ending. The cops are hot on the trail of the killer, they know who he is, they know where he works and where he lives, along side this, our hero has just been captured by the killer, and the only remaining victim has gotten away -- the killer can't be too happy about that, revenge is the fundamental ingredient in the sequel-sauce.

Sure, a Part 2 would probably only be there for sheer profit, but still. I wanna know wtf happened to the main guy [ark.. something, I keep thinking Akrham for some reason despite knowing that's wrong], what happened to the killer, the cops, the little girl, we gotta find out!

Also, was I the only one that found the cat-death-scene utterly hilarious? The way the blood sprayed like an Evil Dead movie made it seem like such a juxtaposition to the dark theme of the rest of the film, it totally caught me off guard at how silly it looked and ended up being completely *beep* funny.

1. Ok.

2. Unless you actually present a sound reasoning, you're just a *beep* troll.

At any rate, it should be abundantly clear today that any movie, in particular a horror movie, is essentially going to be treated by a funding studio as a "pilot" for launching a new franchise.

This approach certainly leads to a lot of frustration when one wants a movie just to tell a complete story and not rely on future installments to make sense (I'm looking at you, PROMETHEUS) - however, there is potential as well to start creating nice, long-form theatrical entertainment. You could say LORD OF THE RINGS paved the way in a sense... and SAW and PARANORMAL, of course, picked up the idea in their franchises - hopefully this series will succeed where SAW failed, and not overload the gimmick (traps) and let the story fall by the wayside.

There's a sequel coming out called THE COLLECTION. There's a trailer out and it looks quite promising, check it out.
