The Collector Vs. The Collection

which film do you like more, The Collector or The Collection?

i like both, but my favorite of the two is the Collector.

Yes I am a fan of both because I love Arkin's character. and I think The Collector is a very well-created horror character.

I have to choose between the two? Im going with the first. The second drifted WAY WAY WAY too far from it's source material, and ended up being nothing like the first. I loved the first one when I first saw it a few years back because the style and overall mood and theme was so good and well-done. Then the sequel is all more-modern B-horror and reckless.

But just this last weekend The Collector's Facebook page said "Big news coming soon..." And I flipped. That can only mean one thing coming from a franchise like this. = 3rd film. I was too desperate for answer, so I had to look it up to make sure the 'big news' wasn't just some lame announcement like the DVD being half price.

So after a long ass time searching online on what that could have meant, I found it (98% sure I did) It was an interview with Marcus Dunstan made before the sequels release. This is what he said when asked about a third film:

"It's all written and ready to go. It just depend on how fans think of The Collection." So I'm pretty sure Marcus is going to make a third.

He even confirmed a title for the third film. "The Collected"

Sorry for the lengthy answer. I hope the third is better than the second!

It's not even a contest. The Collector was scary, claustrophobic, original, atmospheric, creative, disturbing, tense, and overall a great horror classic. The Collection on the other hand was run of the mill, bland, boring, predictable, not scary, lacking any kind of tension or atmosphere and generally a poor movie that could have been found on the Sci-Fi network.

I liked both. I watched The Collection first and then realized it was a sequel. Then I watched the original. Watching The Collector, you can tell he has gotten used to killing and enjoys it and the nightclub scene shows he really upped ante on the body count. No one was sacred to him. He would have killed that little girl if Arkin hadn't stopped him. And he rolled over people in the club scene. He was some kind of heartless. I would like to see a film explaining why he is such a nut job and then kill him.

disclaimer: these are my opinions w/c may include spoilers. don't get butt-hurt!

The Collector was kinda entertaining. Although i know it was allegedly supposed to be a Saw prequel, it developed into it's own entity. It wasn't perfect, but i dug it.

The Collection was pretty boring & predictable. It mostly cut-and-paste. I did not enjoy it.

**also: why bring back Josh Stewart as the original protagonist, Arkin; yet not bring back Juan Fernández as the original antagonist, the Collector?

Ahh...The old 'Let me show these guys how much I know about this film, even though most of the fans of these film already knew that information. I just figured I'd let them know what they already knew just in case someone new see my comment and they'll think I'm a Genius for knowing this information' comment. I've been seeing a large outpour of these type of comments, lately.

Well considering that The Collector is a fun, tense, spooky little horror film and The Collection is a steaming pile of sh4t that lacks any tension, thrills and (most glaring of all) continuity with its predecessor... I'll go with The Collector.

Collection, but I love both :)
Better characters, Arkin is better in it, better traps, and a better ending.
