Major, Major Plothole

When Arkin entered the house the first time, there were no traps anywhere. The Collector came in after him. Suddenly, there were traps EVERYWHERE. How in the world can The Collector set up all those traps in such short time span? or did he already entered the house and set the trap well before Arkin came in.

If so, how did Arkin move around the house without setting any traps if The Collector came in first?

reply

Yes, The Collector was there way long before Arkin. Hence why the family was all locked up downstairs. Arkin just got lucky not springing any traps.

it also would be kinda be weird to have him run into all the traps right when he arrives. It happened after The Collector came back in the house to build the suspense. Just typical movie-mishap.

Another thing I'm bothered by is why did the Collector put up all those darn traps even though he had already captured the husband and wife.

Even if it were just for their daughters, there were just way too many traps to waste his time on.

Look how easy it was for The Collector to capture the older daughter and she didn't even set off any traps.

The Collector by himself is pretty creepy already. The extra gimmick in setting pointless/needless traps makes him extra ridiculous.

A friend pointed out that he is like a spider. He sets traps like it were his webs even though he's not expecting anyone to come walking into it, he have this impulse to build traps hoping somebody would set it off.

Well, makes a bit of sense.

reply

yes your friend is right. he's a predator. the traps are so new comers are traped, and ones already there cant leave.

But, the oldest daughter did set off a trap. She picked up the scissors and was dragged into the nails.

reply

But what are the chances anyone would pick up the damn scissor in the first place? how did The Collector know that somebody was going to go pick the scissor up for whatever reasons?

Did The Collector sprinkled a bunch of Coupons on the floor?

reply

I suppose the scissors were kept there by the family during everyday life. The collector knew that they may likely be used as a weapon against him so he covered his a$$ with the scissor trap.

reply

The scissors were probably left there by the family. As for why they were trapped, it was just in case someone grabbed them. He didn't know someone would, but he wanted to be sure they couldn't stab and kill him if they tried to.

It's not that hard to get.

He just smart like that. He's been doing this for a long time. He's not stupid. Scissors can be used a very deadly weapon. It'd make sense that if anyone escaped form him would grab a weapon. in this case Scissors. He does not give anyone a chance.

It's the same thing. When the dad saw Arkin and thought he was the one doing this to them, he went to get out a golf club to use a weapon. But, surprise, the Collector tagged that too. A trip wire was activated and sent him down over the railing.

"Long before"? The whole thing happened in a day! There's no way the killer could set up so many complex traps in a few hours.

Boycott movies that involve real animal violence! (and their directors too)
