The acting is painful to watch!

I watched this series as it aired and loved it enough that I recently got seasons 1-5 on blu ray when I found them really cheap. My husband and I sat down to watch the first couple episodes and it was a cringefest. I didn't realize just how bad everyone is on this show, even the leads. It does not hold up well at all. :/

Hmm...I have it on Netflix and on HBO GO...and still enjoy it...especially the first 3 seasons..

I don't think anyone does a bad job. They all bring their characters to life rather well and props have to be given to some of the actors who weren't even speaking with their native accents.

I absolutely agree with u it.is so bad.anyone who thinks the lead girl who play rogue in x men can act in this they r a little off..this show straight up blows..awful..

Yes! The cast from Buffy look like master thespians compared to these actors.

The acting is atrocious. I’m binging this after having watched it in first-run on HBO, and have to conclude this was followed by whomever followed Sex and the City.

I suspect the directing has something to do with this. “Make it like Sex and the City, but with vampires.

I'm also currently binging the series after only watching it when originally aired, and I guess it stands to reason that only a handful of these actors ever went on to anything else. This really is no better than a soap opera....with vampires. Watching the episodes back to back very much emphasizes it's flaws and repetitiveness.

I think the acting is done extremely well and that everyone on the show was cast perfectly.

I actually quite enjoyed the acting until the final couple of seasons where you could tell most of the cast started phoning it in. The acting was supposed to be campy and over-the-top. That was part of its charm for me.

Well, the two "leads" are rather terrible, that's a fact. Even though Paquin is an oscar winner (lol) she's very bad in this. There are also a few others who aren't good at all like the guy playing her brother but there are also fine actors stuck with camp characters like Nelsan Ellis who played Lafayette, Rutina Wesley and Carrie Preston (all Juilliard graduates) who are very good but have to play everything "amped up" to match the tone, and not make the leads look as bad as they are, I guess.

I tried re-watching it a few months ago and found the same thing. For a show that isn't all that old yet it really has aged badly. I was also surprised at how quickly it became stupid, the first time around I thought it didn't start to suck till the second last season but I found I couldn't get through season 1.

This show's popularity was entirely attributable to the vampire craze that was in full swing at the time, plus the ample T&A that was on display in every other scene

It's a shame because the basic premise is interesting. Vamps integrating into mainstream society. Vamps who are not de-fanged Twilight ones. The sex and nudity no doubt helped the show at the time, it is almost every ep.
