The thing I noticed
Every scene without Eric sucks and is boring.
English is my first language, I am just illiterate.

No doubt about it. Not enough Viking.

Are you for REAL????? Ever since I came on this site maybe 5 months ago - an addicted Trubie watching the series for the 7th time ON DEMND, this site has been crawling with fanatical, sometimes very articulate, Eric groupies. I like Eric and I think the show couldn't have done without this character for many reasons, but I have been the sole Bill-girl, writing long posts defending him, rebutting the put-downs and sometimes outright vitriol against the character of Bill Compton.
I heard from Maggie'sView, arguably the most intelligent and articulate of them all, that years ago, this site had lots of people like me - mad for Bill! Are you one of them - or do you just dislike Eric - or the show? I don't get it. If you watched the entire series, how could you find Eric - boring? I think you need a second viewing and then it will hit you. Besides being, as even "MrGus" declares "a handsome devil", Eric is an increasingly interesting character, and multi-dimensional.
Before I waste time and energy, I've got to know where you're coming.from? No one has ever made this statement before - and then no explanation. What's the story?
I think you may have misread the opening statement which says ," every scene without Eric sucks and is boring" as in if Eric is not in the scene then it's boring. I would not go along with that particular sentiment as I found scenes which featured some of the other characters very entertaining. Lala was a joy to watch,Jason became endearing as well as a real hoot, Pam was always priceless even in scenes without Eric,,Andy had some great moments and who could not be entertained by the mania that was Russel Edgington? In early seasons Sookie was a delight to watch and her charm and free spirited open minded attitude was refreshing amidst all the petty close minded narrow, almost claustrophobic southern attitudes and mores.
True, I saw Bill Compton as a weak close minded old fashioned southerner who was full of self hatred because he bemoaned his life as a southern gentleman and could not accept who he had become. like Warlow, another self hating character who I saw as "Bill Compton on steroids" , he just became more and more mired in his own self hating fixations that he eventually lost himself completely at the Authority and succumbed to a nihistic Demi God. But he was entertaining, that's for sure and the more twisted he became, the more entertaining he was. Buckner ruined this character as he did all of the rest of them. He should have followed Ball's plan for this character and we would have had an epic Season 6 as the finale of this show.
It's amazing what a temp.of 102 and abdominal cramps can do. Thanks for - tipping me off. The next thing I'll "see" is
"I absolutely love Bill !" Then I"ll call 911.
The Compon thing aside, agree with everything else you've said.
Jason was a tour de force for Ryan Kwanton and the writers. Adore "LaLa", Tara, and Pam is, far and away, my favorite female vamp. Russell is a scene-stealer. But a huge corporation with the Gov. and the Yakusa ( such polite assassinations ) letting Eric steal their product - ridiculous! But loved his suit and Pam's makeover in that televized "New Blood" gala. Anything to escape from the revolting assisted suicide/ Hallmark card Thanksgiving!
With all its faults, True Blood was a brilliant, unique, sometimes ingenious trip.
One appreciates it even more when you see an increasingly mindless, tedious telenovela like "Outlander". I now find it unwatchable. It began with a cool premise - as an historian, I love Time Travel fantasy. 1945, Inverness at Sanheim, Neolithic stones on a hill, a combat nurse/herbalist with an Oxford history prof. husband. But turns into soft-porn and anachronistic idiocy for women who like "Romance" novels. There will never be anything as insanely clever as True Blood again. If only the last 2 Seasons could be re-written - But for all the Bruckner rubbish and missed opportunities ,there are so many wonderful characters, it stands alone and will be a cult classic in the history of television.
Maggie'sView: Warlow - Bill Compton on steroids? Did we watch the same show? We agree on many things so I suppose we did - but didn't. The Compton character, at his best, was an amazingly attractive man with depth, sensitivity, and even a sense of humor. And he was a very good writer, executive ( King ), a great dad ( yeah, I like that sort of thing ),and extremely articulate. That's why even his arch-rival and cynic, Eric respects him. Warlow is a one- dimensional, self-centered bore and not even good-looking. The best looking men on the show are Bill ( when younger - the first 4 Seaseons ), Eric, and Keith! I didn't include Jason who is very cute because I said "men", and Jason strikes me as too boyish for that description. Warlow is a snob, and a bit of a psychopath. Would Bill kill off all the fairies a la
Russell Edgington? And Warlow, unlike Russell, is boring. The analogy is way way off.
Cal_Lissi_il: sorry if I got the name wrong. I don't think the first 3 seasons are boring at all. The First Season was so romantic and subtlely erotic, it did very well without Eric. Bill, when younger, was as hot as hell and his mid-19th century speech "Can I call on you?" - charming. Once this board was full of Bill-girls like me. You're just another Eric groupie. True, the show wouldn't be very good without him - he is so different from Bill ( who is only 175 yrs old and still tied to his human past. We needed an attractive contrast - Eric is essential. Look at some of my old posts ( from Dec 2915 ) and maybe you'll understand why Compton is and was so attractive to so many women - not kids - I mean women 30 up.
