Arkayenether: I tend to agree with you. Sookie became possibly the most unlikable of all the major characters on the show.
I thought Lafayette was right when he called her "the angel of death". Her first victim was Eggs. Anyone of even average intelligence could see that when he came to her after the Maryanne nightmare begging her to help him remember why he had blood on his hands, he was having a nervous breakdown
She should have invented a story which would explain the blood but NOT how Maryanne used him as her executioner. This pushed him over the edge---and got him killed. Unbelievable stupidity.
Then she advises Jason to tell Tara that he shot Eggs. Sookie knows Tara is traumatized almost beyond human endurance by the death of Eggs, and then by being raped, and nearly turned by the psychopath Vampire Franklin, who Jason kills saving her life. Tara finds comfort in the idea that Jason was there for her, until Sookie tells him to spill the beans. This is the last straw for Tara who cuts off her hair and flees Bon Temps ( after discovering that her mother is having an affaire with Reverend Daniels. ).
Finally, her stupidity leads to the death ( who is then turned Vampire by Pam in exchange for Sookie's promise to try to help her with Eric
Debby Pelt, pathologically jealous V-addicted and homicidal, has tried to kill Sookie before - by breaking into her house holding a shotgun.
This time, having been adjured by Alcide and hopped up on V, Debbie breaks in again holding a shotgun. She says, "I should have done this a long time ago." Debbie shoots but Tara, as usual, pushes Sookie out of the way and takes the bullet --in the head. Debbie either drops the rifle or Sookie gets it away from her and shoots her.
Lafayette is there, having just endured the trauma of Jesus's death, begs Pam ( who has stopped by ) to turn Tara, which she reluctantly does in exchange for a favor from Sookie involving Eric. Lafayette helps Sookie vlean up and get rid of Debby's body. Now Sookie's stupidity comes in. Under the law ( especially in the South ) if someone breaks into your house with a firearm, you are entitled to defend yourself by shooting the intruder - and shoot to kill. Debby was not only carrying a rifle, she was pointing it at Sookie, said she was going to kill her and DOES shoot, but killing Tara instead. Sookie grabs the rifle and kills Debbie - as she was entitled to do and should have done. But stupid Sookie tells Jason and Alcide that she had a choice, could have called the police, and says that if Alcide tells she will go to prison as a murderer. This is incredibly stupid because had she done this, Debbie would have tried to take the rifle back and finish Sookie off. Did Sookie think Debby would just wait for the police and do nothing?
Unbelievably stupid. And later, when the faeries tell her that her light is diminishing, she sprays it all over her lawn thinking if she gets rid of her light, she will be normal. Yet it is her light that enabled her to break the spell the witch Marnie from completing her massacre at the Dorchester Hotel, and later to destroy the solar killing wall that surrounded the Moon Goddess Emporium. Very stupid. And there's no guarantee that getting rid of her light would destroy her mind-reading ability? She is just so stupid that Zi could not like her anymore.
When Bill gets sick with an accelerated case of Hep-V and becomes depressed and suicidal as a result. ( even Eric in Stage 1 did not want to live anymore ), does it ever occur to Sookie to get a hold of a hypothermic, fill it up with Newlin's blood, and inject Bill while he sleeps. Nevermind the fact that she had gashed her arm to attract the Hep-V vamps the day before she gives her blood to Bill. The cut was large and deep -- couldn't have healed in one day. She had been drenched with infected blood which would naturally get into her bloodstream. Quite frankly, I liked her at first----but her stupidity alone was unendurable. How about her walking through the woods infested with Hep-V vamps and throwing her cell phone away!!!!!
